Letting Go of the Words

Writing Web Content that Works

Read a chapter from the book

People have asked to see samples from Letting Go of the Words before buying it. That’s a fair request, so I’ve posted two chapters. They are in PDF because you want to see them as they are in the book:

  • Chapter 1 Content! Content! Content!
    (PDF, 1.3MB)
  • Chapter 5 Writing Information, Not Documents
    (PDF, 2.5MB)

For the titles of the other chapters and interludes, see the Table of Contents on the page About the Book.

If you like these excerpts, you’ll love the whole book. Use one of the links in the box on the right to buy the book.

5 Thoughts on “Read a chapter from the book”

  1. From Sam:

I thought this was a great book and was able to apply a few of the principles to our website during a recent update. We added informative link names, broke information into bite-size chunks, made pages friendlier to scanning, not reading.

    We’re pleased with the result.

  2. From Leslie:

I am buying your book tonight, Ginny. Seeing the sample chapters convinced me that I must have it.

I have an old-fashioned manual that I have to convert to an up-to-date Help system for a web service. I think your book will provide exactly the kind of guidance I need to plan the rearchitecture and conversion.

  3. From Josh Cole:

    Hi Ginny,
-I read the book last week and I want to thank you for writing it.

-It had everything I was seeking.

-I will be implementing so many of your techniques immediately.

  4. From Jordan:

I read the first chapter of your book tonight, and I found it incredibly useful and enlightening. I’ll definitely take a look at the other chapter you have up and look into the rest of your book.

    Thank you!

  5. From Deb:

While I found the book to contain a wealth of great information, the title seems misleading. The book spends more time covering many elements of web development, design, image selection and functional structure than it does writing content. In other words it’s about usability - not simply writing web content that works.
